Our Summer Open Day in association with Active for Life was a big success on Friday August 12th with lots of new visitors and some really nice feedback.
Over 100 lunches were served and there was a chance for everyone to try out activities from SAMA karate to Huff Puffin and Short Mat Bowls.
We look forward to the next event, our Bank Holiday BBQ and Karaoke on Sunday 28th August.
There will be fun for all the family as well as a chance to see what goes on at the centre and to join in and try some of the activities for yourself…
Weather permitting, we are planning to hold some events on the Carden Park playing field and there will be snacks and refreshments available from our cafe and bar so why not come along?

An interesting article about Hollingbury and its history.
A brand new community based organisation for local residents in their ‘golden years’ is currently running at Old Boat Corner Community Centre & Social Club in Carden Park, Hollingbury.
Every Thursday from 3-6pm, ‘Active at 60’ is a free, drop-in club which includes a one hour fitness session with Robin, a fully qualified sports leader with six years of experience in the field from 3pm. From 4pm, Peter Arnott-Job runs the group which offers sporting activities including pool, darts and table tennis as well as the opportunity to surf the internet and learn or brush up on computer skills. There are also volunteer mentors on hand to answer any questions on all aspects of retirement and life in the third age as well as the opportunity to relax and chat with friends old and new while you enjoy a refreshing drink.
Active at 60 is a perfect opportunity to meet people with similar interests and to find out what else goes on in the local area, both at the community centre itself and further afield.
So come along and enjoy a free afternoon which is tailor-made for those who are approaching or already enjoying their retirement … you might find that there is still an awful lot of fun to be had and friends to be made, as well as the opportunity to keep fit!
